First night out together!

About a month ago, Keith and I were asked to show some artwork as part of the Guerrilla Cuisine #5. What is Guerrilla Cuisine - in short - it's a monthly event of amazing food, good music and art. Read more about this on their website http://guerrillacuisine.com/.
Because we were showing art, the evening was complimentary, so we made the best of it. It was our first time out together since before Maya was born, and we enjoyed every minute. Grandma + grandpa Lopez were nice to come over and watch over Maya. Just to give you an idea of what the evening was like, here's the menu. Let the jaw drop and the mouth water run.
-Chilled Chesapeake Oyster: Firefly Frozen 'Vojito', American Caviar
-Puree of English Pea Soup: Radishes, Pine nuts, Pancetta
-Halibut Cheeks: Asparagus, Potato Confit, Meyer Lemon
-Soft Shell Crab: Red Cabbage, Our Bacon, Pickles
-Green Egg and Ham: Farm Egg, Country Ham, Cornbread, Arugula
-Beef Short Ribs - Carolina Style: Glazed Turnips, Anson's Grits, Spring Onions, Farro and Swiss Chard, "Collard Greens"
-Strawberries: Ice cream, Roasted with Vanilla, Almond Crumble, Balsamic
Yum Yum

Mormor's knitting!

Before arriving in Charleston, Mormor said she had been knitting so the needles were red hot and glowing. Well that was no lie - here's a few examples of the knitwear Mormor brought over for Maya. The thin cotton is perfect for the Charleston weather.

Mormor came and went!

I hope we haven't lost any of you vivid readers in the long wait for a blog update. I've said it before - times just fly by! I hope to make up for the long wait in the days to come. It is already a few weeks ago that Mormor came and left. It did not take long for Maya to bond with Mormor and she clearly thrived on her company. It was during this time that Maya's amazing giggle got full throttle. It was so nice to have Mormor here and we missed Morfar, but he had to stay at home this time around. The 17 days flew by, though it has to be said, Mormor got an amazing amount of stuff done. When she wasn't hanging out with Maya, she was to be found outside - I think she worked up a bit of a tan! She worked very hard to give the yard a Spring look, which we greatly appreciate - I'm not sure we would ever have gotten to it. Now, of course, since Lee, Holly and also my mum were working on the yard, you probably think we would put you to work should you come and visit. This is not so, in fact most of it is 'self-inflicted', or at least I would like to think so. I was cooking up a storm while Mormor was visiting - hard work demands good food. Mormor worked all that good food off, though unfortunately the same cannot be said about me. Keith was working hard too, we hardly saw him, part of the reason why it was extra nice to have a visitor. Mormor did cook a few of the obligatory dishes. I am proud to say that Keith is very much on the 'rice and pork meat balls in curry' wagon. Uhmm so delicious, I truly feel like a kid when that dish is served. Maybe because there are no vegetables to be found - the onion in the meatballs doesn't count, right? She made us an extra 60 meatballs for the freezer, so we have been eating meatballs with pasta and tomato sauce, meatballs sandwiches, meatballs in pita with salad and so on. The top photo was taken on one of our walks - bushes and trees were in bloom and very beautiful. Maya is wearing her new rosa dress from Lisbeth and Hjalte in a few of the pictures. I couldn't resist including a few 'work hard in the yard' photos.
