It's All About Sleep!

I hate to complain but I'm in pain. I have cracked a tooth and my head is throbbing constantly. I have just had some work done on it and well.... Augh! At least Maya can bring a smile to my lips. Things are good with our little bundle of joy. For the past few weeks we have been practicing putting Maya in her crib at bedtime. We took the big step when our friend Julie sent us a camera+monitor, so now we can keep an eye on Maya even though the door is closed. Julie has a 7.5 month old baby girl - Shelby, so in many ways she is ahead of the game and is able to anticipate what we need before we know it ourselves. For the first 5 days or so I would put Maya in her crib sometime in between 7-8 p.m.. She would cry a little - sometimes a lot, but I would keep an eye on the monitor well assured that she wasn't entangled in the sheets or slants or something. I would try my hardest not to run in there prematurely and in that way rob her of falling a sleep on her own. Usually she would fall asleep before 15 minutes of crying and she would sleep until her late night feeding (11-12pm). Then I would bring her into our room for the rest of the night, for it seemed I was more anxious than Maya (typical). After less than a week of doing this, she simply started skipping the late night feeding and ZZZZ onwards to 4am in the morning. So all in all not as traumatic as we had feared, and Maya is now happily sleeping in her crib all the time. Now we just have to teach her to run errands for us.

The art of multi-tasking!

Here's a shot of Maya during her 'tummy' time. Another one of Maya and Keith hanging out in the early morning contemplating something or other. You can tell Maya is getting a bit of a bald spot on the back of her head from lying down. The sides of her head are also thinning out a little, but she hasn't quite gained the mohawk look yet. The last picture is of Maya and my new friend - Rikke - the only other Danish person I have met around here. Maya likes to take control of the bottle when she gets a little 'extra' a few times a day. Well one second, she has a firm grip on the bottle, - the next second she grabs for your finger, or try and put her own fingers in her mouth. It might take a little time before she masters the art of multi-tasking.

In the Jungle

There is nothing like hanging out in the jungle early in the morning. These days, everything makes it past Maya's mouth for a little dab on the tongue.

A half smile for Mormor!

More of the same. In the beginning of this video, I ask Maya to give Mormor a big smile. Hmm I guess she comes around eventually.

It Feels Like Summer!

It feels like summer, but looks like winter - brown grass and no leaves on some trees. The sun has been shining from a cloudless sky. It has been in the late 60s and early 70s F (approx. 20 degrees C). Winter is a little easier to handle in this kind of weather. Check out Maya's stripy and extremely comfy suit from Karine and co. in DK. YES, she is quite LONG! First picture is from our walk the other day. Crazy, Maya is still sleeping - it has been a little over 3 hours. What to do with all of my spare time? I guess she is feeling the winter nonetheless.

Baby in Pink

Ok, so I hope this video clip works. For what feels like the longest time I have been trying to get some applications in the mail. I have applied for a few competitions and one residency. I just finished the last one today so now I'll try and catch up with some of the things that I have been neglecting. Maya is doing good, so is Keith! She is enjoying her morning nap out on the porch as we speak, she should be waking up any minute now. If this works, I have a another few video clips that I can post so keep an eye out!
